About the Position
This position is based in Beaumont, TX. The Process Control Systems Team Leader's primary purpose is to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of the various process control systems in the Beaumont facility, including the distributed control (DCS) and programmable logic controller (PLC) systems. In addition, the PCSTL will develop and implement long range plans for process control within the facility with a focus on hardware and software upgrades, advanced control strategies and industry trends for instrumentation and operator interfaces. Lastly, the PCSTL will ensure the reliability of the facility's data historian.
Safety: The PCSTL will lead the team responsible for providing reliable DCS and PLC systems and implementing control strategies, which protect the health of the processes and people in the facility. The PCSTL will be responsible for setting the alarm management protocols for the facility and developing methods to ensure compliance. The PCSTL will also ensure associates in the process controls team have the tools and training necessary to safely work on the control systems in the facility.
Environmental: The PCSTL will be responsible for the maintenance and reliability of any control systems needed to ensure environmental compliance of the operating units within the facility. These include systems controlling the plant flares, regenerative thermal oxidizers and waste water treatment. The PCSTL will also ensure the facility's data historian continually archives operating and laboratory data to maintain compliance with environmental reporting requirements.
Quality: The PCSTL will interface with the operating units in the facility to develop control strategies, which improve the consistency of operating conditions and the quality of finished products.
Productivity/Continuous Improvement: The PCSTL will interface with the facility's Technical and Operating departments to identify opportunities to increase throughput, reduce waste and improve energy efficiency via additional control equipment or strategies. In addition, the PCSTL will train the operating unit engineers to troubleshoot control loops and effectively tune loops.
Engineering/Personnel support: The PCSTL will develop and implement an evergreen 5-year plan for upgrades to the process control systems in the facility. The PCSTL will interface with the Engineering department to keep apprised of division wide initiatives and provide support as necessary. The PCSTL develop capital budgets and implement projects based on the 5-year plan. In additional to this, the PCSTL will provide leadership of the control systems team, including salary and hourly associates. The PCSTL will be responsible for performance management and talent development of the associates on the team by conducting regular performance reviews and identifying training opportunities.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with discipline related to job description.
Preferred, but not required, experience in process control within the petrochemical industry including co-op, internship or permanent positions. Typical experience level would be 5-10 years
Technical proficiency in basic process control principles and instrumentation acquired through education and experience.
Familiarity with control systems including distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers.
Ability to work well in a diverse environment.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
