The Director, communications for the Global Operations & Technology (GOT) organization is responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic communications to increase awareness and understanding of Goodyear’s science, technology, innovation and operational excellence priorities to internal and external stakeholders. GOT includes more than 2,750 associates working around the world at Goodyear’s innovation centers and manufacturing facilities in the areas of research and development, engineering, quality, procurement, manufacturing and environmental health and safety.
The director is a key architect of the strategy to position Goodyear internally and externally as technology company focused on innovation leadership today and in the emerging new mobility ecosystem. The director will lead a small team of professionals responsible for developing communications plans and programs to build understanding of the GOT strategy and accelerate knowledge-sharing across the organization, and with key external stakeholders including customers, investors, trade groups, academia, non-governmental organizations and the news media.
The position dual reports to the senior vice president of GOT and the vice president and chief technology officer. He/she will serve as a key member and integral contributor to the GOT executive leadership team. The director will report functionally to the senior vice president, global communications working closely with the corporate communications team and business unit communicators to ensure alignment of strategy, messaging and tactics.
Provide strategic communications counsel and support to the GOT leadership team
Develop an annual communications plan with clear objectives, strategies, and tactics aligned with the business objectives of the organization
Drive internal and external communications and messaging to increase awareness and understanding of the company’s technology, innovation and operational excellence priorities and progress at the global, regional and local level around the world
Increase visibility and drive awareness of Goodyear’s new product pipeline, innovative technologies, sustainability initiatives and market back innovation process
Foster associate engagement by planning organizing and executing global town halls, videos, blogs and other organizational communications activities
Coordinate senior executive speaking engagements and special events
Monitor and measure effectiveness of all communications activities and adapt messaging where needed
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism or related field is required; Advanced degrees and professional certifications are desirable
Key Experiences and Knowledge Required:
A minimum of 10-15 years of related communications experience in a large global company and/or PR firm
Previous experience in manufacturing industry with technical communications skills/understanding
Ability to translate complex technical information into writing for a broad audience
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment both independently and as a member of a team
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines
Superior writing, editing and proofreading abilities
Global mindset coupled with hands-on experience working across geographies in a matrix environment to build and nurture relationships with diverse groups and individuals
Ability to develop creative strategies, champion projects and drive projects to completion
Proven track record as both a high-level strategist and accomplished implementer in challenging situations
Consummate professional with the organizational savvy and negotiation skills to interact and influence at the most senior levels of the organization
Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, organize and follow through on commitments
In-depth knowledge and experience developing strong, clear and measurable internal communications strategies, goals and plans aligned with business priorities
